Swami Vivekananda on the Art of Meditation

It is meditation that brings us nearer to truth than anything else.
Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda, an Indian Hindu monk who was once a student of  Ramakrishna, played a major role in the introduction of Vedanta (one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies) and Yoga to the Western world. He is best known for his teachings on meditation which reflect the depth and breadth of the mystical traditions of India.

According to Swami Vivekananda, one achieves the highest state of the mind in the meditative state. He says:

The greatest thing is meditation. It is the nearest approach to spiritual life — the mind meditating. It is the one moment in our daily life that we are not at all material — the Soul thinking of Itself, free from all matter — this marvelous touch of the Soul!

Vivekananda has many more inspiring quotes about the importance of meditation.

The Patanjali Institute teaches the traditional, classical form of yoga as was described in the ancient scriptures, a holistic approach devised by Swami Vivekananda Yoga, Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYAS) at the Yoga University in Bangalore, India.

In our Yoga Teacher Training 2014 Course, we cover the yogic lifestyle and philosophy to give students a better, more rounded foundation on which to base their yogi practice.  We hold classes in Bali and Thailand.
